Privacy Policy
This policy explains what UNOMI collects, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to the UNOMI iOS app and this website.
What we collect
Account information
Creating an account requires an email address and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored only as a cryptographic hash — nobody at UNOMI can read your password.
You can optionally add a display name, a profile photo, a home ZIP code, and a list of interests. All of it is optional except the email and password, and you can change or clear any of it from Edit Profile.
Your home area — not your device location
UNOMI does not request access to your device's location and does not track where you go. The app has no background location, no location permission prompt, and no history of your movements.
Instead, if you choose to enter a home ZIP code, we convert that ZIP to approximate coordinates once and store them on your profile. That is what lets the app sort businesses by rough distance. Converting a ZIP to coordinates is done through Apple's geocoding service, which means the ZIP you typed is sent to Apple as part of that lookup. If you leave the ZIP blank, results simply aren't distance-sorted.
Favorites and visits
We record which businesses you favorite. Favorites are also cached on your device so the app works offline.
When a participating business scans your code, we increment a counter for that business — one number per business, plus the time of the most recent visit. We do not store a location for the visit, and we do not build a timeline of individual visits.
Camera
The camera is used in exactly one place: business accounts scanning a customer's code. The camera feed is processed on the device to read the code and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. Regular user accounts never use the camera at all.
Search
Search queries are sent to our search provider to return matching businesses. If you've set a home ZIP, the approximate coordinates derived from it are included so results can be sorted by distance. Your name, email, and account identifier are not sent with searches.
What we don't collect
No advertising identifiers. No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. No payment information — UNOMI does not process payments. We do not send push notifications. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
How we use it
- To keep your account, favorites, and reward progress attached to you across devices.
- To show businesses near your home area and sort them by rough distance.
- To let a participating business record that you visited and honor your reward progress.
- To send account-related email: confirming your address and resetting your password.
Who sees what
Participating businesses
When a business scans your code, that business sees your display name and how many times you've visited them. They do not see your email address, your ZIP code, your interests, or anything about other businesses you visit.
Service providers
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
- Typesense — business search.
- Apple — converting a ZIP code to approximate coordinates, and map display.
- Cloudflare — hosting this website.
We may also disclose information if we're legally required to, or where necessary to protect the safety of our users.
Profile photos are publicly accessible
Profile photos are stored in a public bucket, which means anyone who has the direct link to your photo can view it. The links aren't listed or searchable, but they aren't secret either. If that's not what you want, don't set a profile photo — or clear the one you have from Edit Profile.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Delete your account and your profile, favorites, visit counts, and profile photo are removed. Aggregated, de-identified counts that can't be tied back to you may be retained.
Your choices
- Delete your account. In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. It asks for your password, then deletes permanently — there's no grace period and no recovery. You can also email us and we'll do it for you.
- Change your password. Profile → Settings → Change Password, or "Forgot password?" on the sign-in screen.
- Edit or clear your details. Profile → Settings → Edit Profile covers your display name, photo, ZIP code, and interests.
- Get a copy of your data. Email us and we'll send it within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA. Email us and we'll honor them.
Children
UNOMI isn't intended for anyone under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and database access rules restrict each account to its own records. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your information, we'll tell you.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we'll update the date at the top and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
